Western Shogi Pieces
If you don't know Japanese, it can be hard getting used to the pieces
Zillions of Games normally uses for Shogi. Using the same font I used
to make pieces for Cavalier Chess,
the Chess_Motif font by Armando Hernandez Marroquin, I made western
style pieces for Shogi. I used his font for the King, Rook, Bishop,
Knight, and Pawn. I designed my own images for the Gold General,
Silver General, and Lance. For the Gold and Silver Generals, I drew a
shield with the abbreviation used in chemistry for the element of the
piece. Gold Generals have an Au in the shield, and Silver Generals
have an Ag in the shield. Promoted pieces use the same images as
unpromoted pieces but are colored red. The zrf file I've included is
simply the zrf file for Shogi with all the pieces set to the new
images. The images have the same names as the originals but are
initially in a separate directory. This will let you try them out
without replacing the old images. If you decide that you like them
better than the Japanese character images, you may copy them over the
original images in the images/Shogi directory.
