The game requires an 11 x 11 board. There are only 'riders' (night-, cardinal-, chancellor-, amazon-, zebracamelrider) in the game - besides pawns and king, of course. There is a barrier on rank 6 that must be overcome. On ranks 1 to 11, pieces are morphed according to the rules (see below).

Pieces

	pawn	steps one square straight ahead, or diagonally forward to an empty square, or jumps to the 2nd square straight ahead
	nightrider	repeatedly makes a knight's jump in the same direction
	amazonrider	slides in all 8 directions, or repeatedly makes a knight's jump in the same direction
	cardinalrider	slides diagonally, or repeatedly makes a knight's jump in the same direction
	chancellorrider	slides orthogonally, or repeatedly makes a knight's jump in the same direction
	zecari	repeatedly makes a (3,2) leap in the same direction, or repeatedly makes a (3,1) leap in the same direction
	king	steps one square in all 8 directions, or castles by stepping 4 squares towards the chancellorrider

Rules

Except for the following changes, the Fide rules apply. There is no capturing en passant. Castling is part of the game. The promotion of the pawn only affects the pawn on the f-file - provided it reaches the opponent's base line without leaving that file.
Bare king loses. Stalemate is a win.

There is no morphing on the f-file.

In this area, pieces are morphed to:

chancellorrider on a and k files,
nightrider on b and j files,
cardinalrider on c and i files,
zecari on d and h files and
amazonrider on e and g files.

There might be contexts where this proverb applies, but articles explaing game rules are not amongst those. In principle every added sentence or image make those worse, and have to justify their presence by providing essential new information.

The setup section is intended for presenting an image of the initial position. So the 'Play it' Diagram can go there. As it does in the large majority of articles we have here. Then there is no need for having a second, redundant image.

Like there is no need to repeat a number of times that there is no morphing on the f-file...

Can the setup be omitted if the 'Play it' item follows under 'Notes'? Mind you, under 'Notes', i.e. at the end of the presentation. That doesn't make sense, does it?

The setup is the opening for a reason. Everything that follows can be understood as a supplement that serves as further explanation.

Incidentally, we shouldn't think the reader is so stupid that he can't sort the information provided correctly.

A German saying goes: 'Doppelt hält besser' or twice is better than twice - it should be no different in English.

Well, if the first diagram shows the same setup as the second, but without the 'Play it' option, I would say the first diagram is superfluous. Which information exactly would not be conveyed to the reader if it was omitted?
