The game requires a 9 x 9 board. On ranks 2 to 8, pieces are morphed according to the rules (see below). There is no morphing on ranks 1 and 9.

Setup

Standard pieces with standard move options. Details in the rule section.

Rules

Except for the following changes, the Fide rules apply.
There is no capturing en passant, castling and promotion of pawns are possible.
Bare king loses. Stalemate is a win.

The pieces move as in standard chess.

The king is excluded from morphing.

Ranks 1 and 9
There is no morphing on ranks 1 and 9.

Rank 2 and 8
On ranks 2 and 8 there are only pawns or pieces are morphed into pawns to enable pawn promotion. Pieces that have been morphed into pawns on ranks 2 or 8 can only move one square forward, or capture diagonally like pawns.

Ranks 3 to 7
In this area, pieces are morphed to:

E-file
There is no morphing on the e-file (exceptions: ranks 2 and 8 due to pawn promotion).
