Tipped Chess
You know how normal chess is played on a square of squares? Well, Diagonal Chess is still a square, but it has all diagonal squares. Maybe it would make more sense if you see the setup. By the way, this is my first variant!
Setup
-------R------- ------P=N------ -----==P=B----- ----====P=K---- ---======P=Q--- --========P=B-- -p=========P=N- r=p=========P=R -n=p==========- --b=p========-- ---k=p======--- ----q=p====---- -----b=p==----- ------n=p------ -------r-------
Pieces
The pawn- moves forward on the forward diagonal. Captures on the forward orthogonals. Double first move allowed. En passant not allowed. Promotion allowed. The knight- moves two squares diagonally in one direction, then one at a 90 degree angle to that. The bishop- moves along the diagonals any number of squares. Colorbound. The rook- moves along the orthogonals any number of squares. The queen- moves any number of squares along the orthogonals and diagonals. The king- moves one square in any direction. Must not be put in check. Castling still allowed. The knight and the pawn are to only pieces really affected by the diagonal board.
Rules
Just like the F.I.D.E. rules, except: 1. No en passant. 2. Knights and pawns move slightly differently.
Notes
Please try out this game and tell me what you think! This, again, is only my first variant. I don't know if this will work well, but I think it will.
