The Gyullas Turtle also moves in that fashion. The difference in the two identically moving pieces has to do with crystal collection. Such pawns are hazardous to Pawn Shields which are very important in FIDE type chess variants. They are also hazardous in regard to 'outposts' such as the famous 'Knight Outpost.'
